Run Disney Concept
My wife and I love to run and when you mix that with the magic of Disney it gets even better. Unfortunately, that magic is not included in the overall user experience of finding a race and signing up online. I have often wished for a better experience and really think runDisney could shine if there was a mobile app. A place to register for races, track your training progress, find race results, and connect with other runDisney fans. So here is a quick concept I put together using Sketch and Principle of what it could be like to open the app for the first time, find a race, and register.
This concept is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of Disney. Images and Information belong to runDisney.com
App Walkthrough:
The purpose of this introduction is to intentionally reveal functionality to potential runners while also building some excitement. This was one of my first projects using Principle and I used it as an opportunity to explore the horizontal swipe animation and color transitions.
Loading Screen: While it is not always a pleasant experience to have to wait for an app to open, often times there isn't a way to avoid it. Instead of skipping this somewhat simple or small detail of the app, I wanted take the opportunity to make a good first impression with Disney fans and what better way then with the iconic character of Mickey Mouse. Instead of simply adding a standard spinner of some sort, I included this animation of Mickey running on the bottom of the screen to add some whimsy as you wait. You might recognize the animation which originally came from an old 90's video game I used to play called Mickey Mania.
Event Search & Registration: Now it is time to find the perfect race and register. Through my own experience registering for Disney races, I wanted to highlight some key data points I always find most interesting. The event list is in chronological order and showcases the themes while answering the basic questions of any event, like when and where. Once you find a race that piques your interest, tapping that event provides more granular information including one of the most sought after questions of any runDisney event and that is what the metal will look like. Once you find the race you are looking for, you are able to walk through a familiar and intuitive checkout process.
